Tucked away at the far end of Corporation Street, in Birmingham City Centre, is Annexe, a European restaurant that is known for its sophisticated style and classy parties. Now with a new head chef, Daniel Andrade, Annexe are starting a new chapter in their jourey, which is, of course, focussed on a new menu. I was invited down to the launch of their new, innovative menu, and was excited to see what would be on offer. Read on to hear how the evening went, and what you can expect from Annexe if you visit in the future – which you most definitely should do!
The restaurant itself is cosy and intimate, with a bit of a vintage feel. On the evening the place was full and the atmosphere fantastic. On arrival we were treated to a glass of fizz to sip on as we wondered what would be in store for us during the evening. I’d never visited Annexe before (though it’s definitely now on my list!) so it was nice have a nose around and speak to those who have – I heard only good things about this gorgeous little place, and apparently their New Year’s Eve party is one of the best in town!
Throughout the evening guests were able to try canape sized servings of some of the new dishes on the menu – a total of eleven in all! The overwhelming impression I got from these miniature meals is that Annexe is certainly trying to push the boat out with flavours and textures. Each dish was interesting and a talking point – highlights included mozzarella ice-cream, strawberry gazpacho and the passion fruit dessert served with spiced cake.
As well as the new menu, Annexe is also expanding their wine collection to include over 75 wines, with each dish being specifically paired with one. On the evening of the launch we were able to try each dish with its partnered wine, which really allowed guests to get a feel for dining at Annexe. Each wine was spot on, with some interesting combinations that allowed you to appreciate both the food and drink more fully. These wines are all available by the glass, making it easier to sample a number with your meal.
Overall, the launch of the new menu at Annexe was a great evening, and an exciting taster of what is now on offer at the restaurant. It’s certainly now top of my list for the next date night, as the food was fantastic and, with not a re-claimed wood table or low haging naked light bulb in sight, is a rare find of a traditional, romantic setting to dine in. Thank you to everyone at Annexe for having me at the launch event, I look forward to visiting again soon!
