O’Neill’s has always been a favourite with party-ers on Broad Street, loved for its down-to-earth welcome and reasonably priced food and drinks. A couple of weeks ago O’Neill’s revealed its recent renovation and brand new look, and I was invited down to the re-launch party. The evening was full of good food, good drink, and plenty of ‘craic’ – a perfect example of what the Irish pub is all about.
The new decor of the pub looked great, creating a more modern feel than before, that might attract a different crowd. There were plenty of seating arrangements to suit any kind of outing, from a cosy lunch to a hen party, giving it that flexibility between day-time pub and night-time bar. There was also some fantastic live music on the night, which helped show off the pub at its best – bustling, loud and full of fun.
Guests on the evening were treated to plenty of booze to get the party started, and, though admittedly I didn’t expect much from this chain pub, I was pleasantly surprised by the cocktails. As O’Neill’s specialises in whiskey, it was no surprised that the whiskey based signature cocktails stole the show. The Tennessee Honey Punch was a particular winner, as the honey, apple and ginger flavours made for a really warming drink that suited the easy-going feel of the pub.
The food on the evening was not particularly veggie friendly, but it certainly went down very well with those that had it on the night. The regular menu does have a few options however, and is a mix of American and Irish style food and your obvious pub classics.
The re-launch night was a perfect reminder that if you fancy something a bit more down-to-earth and laid back, O’Neill’s won’t let you down. There’s a bit of something for everyone at the Irish pub, with very friendly staff and a buzzing atmosphere. If you’re yet to visit since the re-opening – go see for yourselves!
*The food and drink at this event were complimentary. This does not affect my honest opinion.
