Located in the financial district, Metro Bar has been a favourite with professionals in the area for years. Now Metro has been re-invented as Zen Metro, a sophisticated Thai restaurant, and I was invited down to the launch to get a taste of what the new venture will bring. There is certainly a lot of excitement around this new restaurant, not only as there are so few Thai eateries in the city centre, but it is also the sister of the award winning and popular Asha’s Indian restaurant. Read on to find out how the launch-night went, and what you can expect from the brand new Zen Metro.
The place was absoulutely buzzing when I arrived, packed out with local businesses, the press, and a few Birmingham celebrities. Zen Metro really showed they can throw a party, with drinks flowing from the open bar all night, a resident DJ, a live sax player and a photogropher documenting the evening. As we sipped on our bubbly, we were able to have a look around the restaurant, which has a modern, sophisticated style, complete with a stunning cherry blossom tree in the centre of the dining area.
Throughout the evening guests were treated to a taste of Zen Metro’s menu in the form of various canapes, including mango prawn skewers, papaya salad and my particular favourite, massaman curry. Thai food is generally a good bet for vegetarians, so I was glad to see there was plenty of meat-free dishes coming around. The canapes were all delicious, and the presentation of them had clearly had a lot of thought put in to it. These mini treats certainly made me want to return for a full meal!
Overall, the Zen Metro launch night was a great showcase of what we can expect from the new restaurant. The food was fantastic, the venue stunning, and the hospitality knew no bounds. I’m certainly looking forward to returning, so if you’re into Thai cuisine then I really recommend you make a visit. Thank you to everyone at Zen Metro for having me, I had a brilliant time and look forward to seeing how the launch night will translate into the full dining experience.
