When I visited the new ‘Friska‘ in Brindley Place last week I was asked where I usually grab lunch from in town. Honestly, I was stuck for an answer; not many everyday-lunch destinations in the city centre excite me. I’m pleased to say that after visiting Friska I think this problem has been solved! Situated in the busy business district of Brindley Place, and planning to open more in the city in the future, Friska is a quirky, independent cafe that is your new answer to a tasty breakfast, lunch or coffee.
With six cafes already, the new branch in Birmingham is the first outside of Bristol. Serving hot and cold food in take-away packaging Friska is all about making that every-day breakfast or lunch something to look forward to. Their menu is full of fresh and wholesome food, catering for carnivores, veggies, vegans, dairy-free and gluten-free.
For our lunch we tried the vegan sweet potato sambar hotbox, which was a gorgeous vegetable curry served with spicy rice, slaw, baked tortilla chips and mango chutney. Knowing that this meal was so satisfying, healthy and tasty means I’d definitely recommend it for the perfect mid-week lunch. The same goes for the grilled haloumi hot wrap, packed with slaw, salsa, spinach and dressing. Though this was slightly messy to eat, it was so worth it! Swilled down with a perfectly made coffee (they’ll also make it with Soya, almond milk or oat milk!) it was overall a great lunch, and I can’t wait to try other things on the menu.
Friska also places a lot of importance on running their cafes ethically. They know that happy staff means happy customers and try to make positive environmental and social decisions throughout the business. Their tagline ‘feel good food’ really rings true when you know that they give away left-overs to the homeless, donate money to charity, are 100% powered by renewable energy and use only free range meat.
You can find the Birmingham Friska at 11 Brindley Place, where you can eat in or take food away. Thank you to Oliver and everyone at Friska for having us, we will definitely be grabbing our lunch from Friska in the future!
*We were invited to try the food and drink at Friska complimentary. This does not affect my honest opinion.
