There’s a new kid on the block in the beautiful Great Western Arcade, and if you love your Greek food (who doesn’t?!) then you ought to know about it! The recently opened Treat Greek Deli invited me down to see the place and try some of their freshly baked treats, which has already left me itching to go back! Bear in mind we visited right at the end of the day, so imagine a fuller stock of baked treats in the photographs below!
The deli itself has a relaxed and simple style, with a small seating area inside and some cafe-style tables out the front. Located towards the top end of the Great Western Arcade it’s in a perfect location for those working in the business district to grab lunch or go for a coffee after work. The deli not only sells fresh food and coffee, but also has a range of jams and preserves and various traditional Greek delights which are all reasonably priced.
The staff were extremely friendly and can help recommend their products if you’re not quite sure what you fancy. All ingredients (bar vegetables) are sourced from Greece, so you really are getting the real deal at this Greek family-run business!
For a savoury snack we sampled their spanokopita (spinach and feta in filo pastry) and their skopelos (roasted vegetables in water-crust pastry). Both absolutely hit the spot and were very filling, making the perfect lunch. Other veggie options in the range include pumpkin pie, fennel pie, tiropita (cheese pie) and many more. If you’re not in the mood for pastry, pre-packed fresh Greek salads are also available.
For sweets we sampled the tsoureki, a traditional sweet bread that is available in chocolate or raisin. These were served in one-portion sizes and would make a perfect accompaniment to their coffee as a breakfast or mid-morning snack. We were so impressed with the food we’d tried that we brought home with us some kataifi to share, which was as rich and syrupy as you could possibly want, and tasted exactly like we’d had in Greece.
Whether you work in the city centre or need a break from the busy streets, Treat Greek Deli is a little gem that you should definitely check out. Food and drink is available to eat-in or take-away, and is a welcome alternative to the plethora of chain baguette bars and coffee shops in town. Thank you to Demos and everyone at the deli for having us down, we will be recommending it far and wide!
*I was invited down to Treat Greek Deli to sample some of their food complimentary. This does not affect my honest opinion and I was not obligated to blog about my experience.
