‘Strawberries and Cream’ Valentine’s Sandwich Recipe

Valentine’s day is at the end of this week, so it’s time to start planning! Whatever goes down in the bedroom, we all know that the real highlight of Valentine’s day is the food! Today the lovely lot from Roberts Bakery sent me a recipe for a ‘Strawberries and Cream’ Valentine’s themed Sandwich. Since Valentine’s day is on a Saturday this year we get to spend the whole day with our significant others, and so any little idea to keep the romance going throughout the day is welcome! These sandwiches would be perfect to take as a posh packed lunch if going out for the day, or even as part of a picnic if you’re braving the cold!

At first I was a little apprehensive at the idea of the flavour combinations, but after trying one I will hands down tell you the recipe is spot on. Created by the Channel Four nutritionist Dr. Carina Norris, this recipe combines sweet and sharp flavours that make these sandwiches something special, and a really adorable gesture to your other half.

8 slices of Roberts Soft and Fluffy White Loaf

Around 8 – 10 Strawberries

Cottage/soft/ricotta Cheese (I went for soft and bought the low fat option)

A Handful of Rocket Leaves

Freshly Ground Black Pepper

1. Cut your heart shapes (with a cookie cutter or with a knife) out of the bread

2. Drain the cheese and spread generously on the bottom slices

3. Add a few rocket leaves to each slice

4. Slice the strawberries long-ways and stack onto the bread slices

5. Finally, grind over a generous helping of black pepper and add on the top slice!

I hope you all have a great Valentine’s day with your loved ones!

*I was sent a hamper from Roberts Bakery including the bread and cookie cutter to make this recipe.

This recipe immediately sounds really strange and like it wouldn’t taste good, but I can see it tasting amazing, It might be something I have to try. I love a bit of experimentation.

I thought exactly the same thing when I first saw it, but honestly give it a go because it so works! I don’t even particularly like rocket or soft cheese, but altogether it was awesome!

This does sound a bit odd but I think it would work as I would totally have the same ingredients in a nice salad! Love cutting them into the heart shapes too – it is a good idea! xx

I was really surprised but the pepper pretty much made it! And yes, can’t go wrong with cut out hearts! Adds that little bit of cuteness 🙂 xx

Let me know what you think!
