Student Recipe: Brownie in a Mug

If you are yet to discover the brownie in a mug, prepare to have your life changed. Making a whole batch of brownies often requires a fair bit of time and some kitchenalia you may not have in your student house. Microwave mug brownies can be knocked up in under 5 minutes and leave you with next to no washing up, making them the answer to student’s very prayers. Below is the basic recipe, but as with normal brownies you can get creative and add a bit of what you fancy.

Brownie in a Mug

2 Tablespoons of Butter

3 Tablespoons of Water

4 Tablespoons of Plain Flour

2 Tablespoons of Cocoa Powder

4 Tablespoons of Caster Sugar

1/4 Teaspoon Vanilla Essence

In the mug, soften the butter in the microwave for around 10 seconds. Add all of the ingredients to the mug then stir thoroughly (don’t worry about getting it up the sides of the mug, it will only turn gooey which is no bad thing). Bake in the microwave for 2 Minutes (less time if your microwave is above 700w). Take out and eat! What did I tell you, life changing.

Did your recipe include oil? Alot of recipes have oil in them, and it becomes pretty crucial what kind of oil you use (for instance olive oil makes it distinguishing). This recipe has butter so it just tastes like a normal brownie!

I’d really love to try this but …. I don’t have a microwave – my flat is so small it won’t fit! 🙁

Let me know what you think!
