Having only recently celebrated its first birthday in Birmingham, The Botanist is already one of the city’s most popular cocktail bars. I’ve always enjoyed myself whenever I’ve visited, and always go back to a couple of firm favourites on their drinks menu. So when I was invited down to try a selection of their brand new cocktails, I was interested to see what they had come up with to improve their already popular offering.
First off we tried a couple of the long drinks on the menu. I was pleased to see my particular favourite, the english mojito, is still available (which you all need to try) – but I really did enjoy the newest long cocktails! These included the thai chilli crush, which was a gin based drink with a fruity flavour and a real kick. Don’t go for this one if you don’t like spice as it certainly isn’t mild!
My favourite cocktail of the evening was one of their twists on a classic: the apricot and mint daiquiri. This was a really refreshing and sweet drink, with a bursting apricot flavour that went so well with the summery taste of mint. This may well be the one that I keep coming back to!
Finally we got to taste some of the new short drinks. Most of these were very much on the sweet side, so opt for other options if you prefer your cocktail a little more balanced. If however you do have a sweet tooth, I would really reccommend the apricot and peach smash. The whiskey in this drink is definitely allowed to come through, whilst still being an easy-drinker.
If you haven’t been to the Botanist in a while (or even if you have!) definitely go try out a few drinks from their new menu – from creative martinis to beer based cocktails, there is something for all tastes. Thanks to everyone at the The Botanist for having me, I’m already looking forward to my next apricot and mint daiquiri!
*The drink samples at the tasting session were complimentary, this does not affect my honest opinion.
